2009 Death Ride July 25th & 26th

Mark down the weekend of July 25-26 2009 somewhere you can remember it because you do not want to miss your "Death" ride.
We hope this year to centrally locate everything in downtown Madison. The new Cafe downtown did an outstanding job with our end of the ride dinner..... If possible look for some entertainment this year Saturday night. So plan on an entire weekend of fun in the Flint Hills.... We are working out the details now, so all you will have to do it train and show up.

I've looked high and low and can't find the info, so I'm asking for help. I see the dates listed for '09, but... what day does the ride take place (i.e. Saturday or Sunday). All the info I've found just shows the dates for the weekend. TIA

Hey fellow cyclists. I am going to do the Death Ride this year for the first time, after I do the B.A.K. ride across kansas for the first time. Both rides are going to kick ass, or maybe kick my ass, lol. Keep the rubber side down and ride planet earth.

As for training - just ride lots. Look for hills. Get off the pavement and ride gravel roads. The biggest mistake people make is not hydrating, especially if they're more used to road riding and can stop at the next quickie mart. No quickie marts out there ...
Bring an extra tube or two, and chain lube, along with more water and sunscreen, as the info shows.

I have been riding the DR for the past three years. I am 62 now and this ride takes everything out of me but I love the experience. The key advise I can tell anyone who has not done a high temp, long hilly ride like the DR is to drink, drink, drink (water of course). That is one key thing I have not done well. As a result, I am wasted much more than I should be after the ride. For me, a quart of Gator Aid and a 20 minute nap after the ride brings me back to life.

Take electrolites during and after the ride. 100% Grape juice is great but it stains and is very sticky so just add the powder to your water it doesnt taste too bad and saves your style man! oh,and woman. Walts or Cyclextreme

Wow, that was a tough ride. If you don't get your chemistry right and you cramp early, it can be a long ride. I know it wasn't lack of drinking, because I was hydrated like crazy. Maybe too much? If you have a good day, it could be a 7 hour ride. If you have a bad day, it's a 9 to 10 hour day. That gets into some of the worst heat of the day, and energy sapping.

Just a couple requests to the organizers...
please update all your web pages. It ends up giving some outdated info that leads people to some wrong conclusions about accomodations, restaurant availability, etc. Also, I was wondering if the results could be posted or found somewhere. Maybe I haven't looked on the right page yet. Thanks.

Are any photos going to be posted somewhere online? I noticed a lady taking a LOT of pictures and was wondering if she had a website or what...

I would like to know the same things as two previous posters - any results available and what about the pics that were taken?
