Just to let you know the Death Ride 2010 will have electronic online registration this year, we meant to have it ready to go last year, dang we got snake bit instead........This year, this time yes it will happen.....
I can not top last years weather, it was too damn easy, so 2009 does not count..... It was like a free throw in basketball, a free lap in nascar, a free pass to the show, or even a "Get out of Jail FREE Card" in Monopoly, well, you get the idea. Hell, tailwinds and cool temps, come on, that is no fun, where is the suffering......
We hope to do better for you this year. So sign up and come on out and see what we do "to" err, I mean, "for" you this year.

DEATH RIDE POST MORTEM
DANG, if you missed this one, you missed a good, no, great one..... the weather for July in the Flint Hills was outstanding. It was not HOT, it was windy, a little, from the NORTH..... so riders had a tailwind back to Madison instead of the 30 mile headwind we thought they would have.... go figure. I think the temp in the morning was in the middle 60's and only got into the upper 80's.
The first rider made it to Madison a little after 12:30 pm. He was still walking and talking in complete sentences. It was the most peculiar thing and one we are not used to. Many riders were almost giddy and just wanting to know if the pool was open for showers....
I was the keeper of the gate as far as the cutoff goes and the cutoff time was 11am with all riders making it to my spot by 10:30 am. Now honestly, only 3 chose to do the short route but there were around 20 to 30 of you (and you know who you are) that should have taken the shorter route.... Total rider count was 162ish.
The long route was 83 miles, that is a lot of dirt..... and the short was around 53.
We had fantastic support from Madison. The town bought and put up a banner across Main Street with "Welcome Bikers" on it just for us.....We had local volunteers from Madison at all of our sags to help us.... and the ATV guys were with us again having a ball and providing support. The local pool extended their hours for us and so did the local cafe. Wow, I could sure feel the love. I haunted the local grocery store making enough trips there in 2 days to be accused of being a local. We located everything downtown this year and next year the park adjacent to the Library will have hookups for RV's I believe....
This ride has evolved a bit from the early days, but it sure seems to be just as pretty and it is still a challenge no matter what the weather. It was the greenest and wettest I have ever seen in those hills, so wet Paul and I did not do one of the water crossings and we were in the car....
Join us next year and watch this blog each month for updates.
Do it in the dirt.

And more info before we go.......out of town.
The $50 entry fee includes the ride, the support in the field, the maps, sags and all you can eat dinner after the ride...... Just getting water "out there" is quite a task. The tee shirt is extra. This year everything will be in downtown Madison and we will not be using the High School. Keep training and we will see you in July...... Jim
Out of Town June 20 to June 27
Please continue to email questions that you have about the Flint Hills Death Ride, but know that we are Out of Town entertaining our guests from 23 different states and 1 foreign country on our Border Raider Ride.......
One question that keeps popping up is the $25 Flint Hills Trail Guide, this is a collection of stories and history of the ride authored by John Hobbs and we published his writings in book form as a keepsake, it is not necessary to have to do this ride.
Do take a look at it at registration, John is truly unique and has a way with words.
Look for more postings after June 27th.
Keep the fat tire side down in the dirt.
cheers, Jim

THE PDF is online and ready to be downloaded...... we will not have electronic registration this year.
So get the form and register early if you wish or the day of.....but as always, remember to let us know you
are coming so we can have the necessary supplies in place. It is a beautiful ride in the Flint Hills that can
get real ugly fast with no food and no water.

The Death Ride Jersey's are in the mail to you as of this weekend....
We are going to try to tighten up the schedule next year so that they are delivered within the 8 weeks...... from the time you order to the time we take delivery.... and then get them to you.
That means you are going to have to commit up front with the dollars before the ride and we are going to have to learn to say "NO" if there are any orders after our deadline..... So be warned we are going to set a deadline and stick to it.
The Death Ride is in Madison Kansas this July 25th and 26th with the main event on Sunday.
Keep watching this blog for details. Online registration and a PDF will be available hopefully in April.......

Death Ride Jersey Order
Many of you have been wondering where is the jersey I ordered for the 2008 Death Ride and so have we......
Our order is so small we keep getting put behind larger orders and that sucks, but it is out of our control. I did talk to Paul tonight and we have the "word" now our order will be mailed to us around December 8th and we will try to quickly get them out to you by or around the 15th and if you want can put them under the tree for Christmas......
I will talk with the Death Ride planners and see if we can rethink how we do the jersey. I would love to give you the jersey as you leave that day...... That would mean you would have to preorder it months before the ride and be sure to do the whole ride that day.......hmmmm. We will kick it around.
Next year we plan on trying to do the Death Ride all in Downtown Madison, Kansas. Everything will be centrally located that way.
We are also trying to expand with some entertainment Saturday night.
Keep the knobby side in the dirt,
Cheers Jim
